Bank account: EE682200221088855483 (Swedbank)

You can find the list of registered people by clicking here: Registered.

Registration is open until race numbers and medals are distributed. We encourage you to register early because no one will lose the registration fee due to weather conditions (if the marathon has to be postponed to another weekend due to wind, the registration fee will be refunded, if desired). Everyone who registers for the marathon course by July 15 will receive a GPS tracking device on the boat.

The participation fee is the same for both short and long-distance (including kayak sprint, safety training, and moat track):
- 50 euros per competitor for registration until the end of April,
- 65 euros per competitor for registration in May-June,
- 75 euros per competitor for registration in July.
Participation in the safety training and moat tour is free of charge, only prior registration is required.

Sponsors and members of the Search and Rescue Society as well as previous volunteers are exempt from the participation fee.

Before registering, please read the conditions of participation.
Before the race, it is possible to re-register for a long or short course or by boat class at no extra charge, by notifying the main organizer.

The participation fee includes:
- 3-days-long program;
- food and drinks at two pitstops on Abruka Island and Vahase Island (see the Food section);
- food and drinks at the finish area;
- sauna and draft beer at the after-party;
- medal and waterproof boat number;
- Sportrec GPS tracking service for the marathon course (at the organizer's expense, the service of one tracker is €10, in case of loss, the participant's responsibility is €140);
- course map and finish map;
- pictures of the competition and participants (see Gallery);
- "safety net" in terms of safety boats, boats, etc. (see the Safety section for more information);
- safety training;
- the opportunity to race for awards on three tracks (see the Results section for more details).

If the weather forecast for 19 July 2025 is unfavorable, the marathon will take place either on the previous or the following day and the participation fee will not be refunded in this case. If strong winds (with gusts reaching over 8 m/s) are expected throughout the whole weekend of 18 to 20 July, then the marathon will be postponed for safety reasons to the next weekend. If the registered participant cannot participate in the marathon the next weekend and informs the organizer about it in advance by way of sending an e-mail to meremaraton@gmail.com, the participation fee already paid will be refunded. Changes in the time of the event will be communicated to all registered participants via e-mail and posted on the Facebook account of the Abruka Sea Kayak Marathon.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION:

  • The marathon track is primarily intended for kayakers.
  • The paddler must know how to swim.
  • Participation in the marathon is at your own risk. Minors from the age of 14 are allowed to start only together with a parent if they belong to the same boat or with the written consent of the parent.
  • Availability of rescue equipment: route map, lifevest, whistle/fog horn, hat (primarily against sunstroke, but the brighter the hat the better, so that you are more visible to motorboats in windy weather), a fully charged phone in a waterproof case (with saved numbers of sea rescue and the organizer), bilge pump, compass, drinking bottle, sprayskirt.
    Before the start, the presence of these items in each boat is checked by a representative of the search and rescue (SAR), who has the right not to allow the person to start if the item is not present.
  • Safety contacts that must be saved in the phone before the start:
    • Head of SAR Abruka Unit: +372 554 0627
    • PPA maritime surveillance center: tel. +372 619 1224 or 112
    • Saaremaa Voluntary Sea Rescue Society: phone 511 9922
  • The organizer and SAR representative have the right to remove from the race a paddler who breaches safety rules and does not obey orders during the marathon.
  • A photographer will record the competition. It is possible to remove the participant's picture from the gallery by notifying the organizer before or after the competition.
  • For marathon participants, Sportrec GPS tracking service is available at the expense of the organizer (in case of loss, the responsibility of the participant is 140€) in consideration of safety and public traceability of the main race distance. The devices are vacuum-packed. To stay in range, the GPS must be placed as high as possible (the device does not work well in the storage area at the bottom of the boat). For this purpose, the tracker comes with a strap, which makes it worth placing the device either on the shoulder, upper arm, or breast pocket of the safety vest.
In order to participate in the moat track of Kuressaare Castle, swimming skills are required and in the case of children, additional supervision by an adult in the same boat or accompanying boat.
